Design & Functions of PHE

A set of embossed plates are the core of PHE and are provided with apertures. Their assembling is done at an angle of 1800 that helps in achieving flow gaps on every side. A gasket is supported with every plate that allows secure sealing of the flow gaps from atmosphere. It also helps in keeping the two medias apart that are present during the heat exchange.

The set of gasketed plate is mounted on rack, which is thereafter compressed using tightening bolts amidst the movable and fixed plate. Through PHE, cold and warm media are fed under standard mode; this ensures optimum heat transfer. The feeding of media can be done either in single pass or multiple pass.

For single pass, connections are present on fixed plate whereas for multipass flow, these are present on movable plate.

Plate and Gaskets are Technically Advanced

  • Asymmetrical and symmetrical flow gaps are achieved with the corrugation fields having “Off-Set” embossing
  • At edges, plates have a unique profile that reinforces the entire set and helps in achieving high pressure resistance during operation
  • Easy to maintain as “Clip-System” fastening is done on gaskets
  • Entry fields are also embossed to allow maximum media distribution
  • Exclusive ribbed surface is provided on gaskets that allows precise centering as well as stabilization of the plate set
  • Heat transfer rates are very high as their designed is optimized as per principles of thermodynamics
  • Medias are not mixed due to the leakage groove present with double gasket

Advantages of Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE)

  • About 75% less space is used
  • Asymmetrical flow gap is possible
  • Easy to open and clean
  • Heat transfer is highly efficient (K-values are > 3 to 5 times that of bare-tube heat exchangers)
  • High turbulent flow gives a self-cleaning effect
  • Higher safety in regard to media mixing, which is due to double gasket protection with leak groove
  • In future, capacity can be increased by adding more heat transfer plates
  • Liquid content as well as operating weight is low
  • Over cost of investment and maintenance is low
  • Smallest temperature difference </= 1oC
